DCSTM unites Ganalaagte, in the fight against crime

The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management (DCSTM) prides itself in bringing together different stakeholders as well as communities to combat crime.

In Ganalaagte, a remote village in the Tswaing Local Municipality the Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) awareness campaign was fully embraced by different community structures, such as Bakolobeng and Bopanang Tribal Authorities, schools, various religious groups, activists against crime and many others.

The event was a true reflection of an integrated approach to fight the scourge of GBVF and crime as a whole.

“This campaign is a means of a proactive crime prevention initiative by the department. It is an effective way of creating an environment where high levels of crime become restricted.

“It also requires the help of active participation by our different communities such as today, where we speak out against crime, we report cases and stop protecting criminals,” said Florence Nchoe, the Director of Crime Prevention Partnerships.

Not only was the event attended in numbers but the community is ready to play it’s part in working together to fight crime.

“It is important to come up with the appropriate solutions to fight crime and more especially the concerning violence against women and children.

“No one can solve our issues more than us so we welcome assistance of our government but equally we must take a stand against perpetrators who sometimes are our neighbours, children etc”, said the Mayor of Tswaing Local Municipality Cllr Norah Mahlangu.
